Experts gathered in Fiji to begin drafting the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) - and a call for contributions on Indigenous and Local Knowledge for the IPBES Global Assessment has been issued.From 2-6 October 2017, Coordinating Lead Authors (CLAs) and Lead Authors (LAs) selected for the SROCC met in Fiji for the first author’s meeting to define the process and content for the approved outline of the report, including Chapter 2 on 'High Mountains' in which MRI's Executive Director, Carolina Adler, participated as one of the chapter's eleven LAs.
The IPCC has issued a press release describing the purpose and focus of this week-long meeting. The next steps in the SROCC process will be the submission by all chapter teams of their zero drafts for internal review in December, followed by preparations to attend the second lead authors meeting in Quito, Ecuador in February 2018. The final SROCC report is expected to be finalised by September 2019.

IPBES - Call for contributions on Indigenous and Local Knowledge [ILK] for the IPBES Global Assessment
The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has issued a call for contributions, inviting experts on ILK, holders of ILK, as well as their organizations and networks, to engage with and support the Global Assessment of IPBES.
Your contribution is important for the Global Assessment in developing and guiding the content to include aspects of ILK, and we encourage the mountain research comunity with expertise and contacts on the subject to consider contributing. Of particular importance and relevance are resources such as data, information, knowledge, other forms of expression, networks, organizations, and individual experts that could make key contributions to greatly enrich and inform the assessment.
The deadline for contributions is 20 December 2017.
