Thinking Mountains 2018

Thinking Mountains is a triennial interdisciplinary mountain studies summit that promotes dialogue about mountain places, peoples, and activities.

Thinking Mountains 2018 will take place in the heart of Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, 2-5 October, and submissions for sessions, papers, posters, and side meetings are now invited. The summit will provide opportunities to meet established authors, researchers, and experts in mountain studies, along with those who are new to the field.

Topics for sessions, individual papers, and posters include (but are not limited to): geomorphology, glaciology, atmospheric science; regional studies; past environments and/or peoples; cultural studies and history; literature and the aesthetic arts; experiential education and pedagogy; tourism, recreation, parks and protected areas; the science and medicine of altitude (physiology, human performance, clinical, etc.); mountain ecologies, biological diversity, flora and fauna.

Special events and field trips will be scheduled for entertainment and to learn about the unique mountain landscape of Banff, and the Canadian Rockies generally.
