Join on 29/30 June 2023 during the Sustainability Research + Innovation Congress.

During the Sustainability Research + Innovation Congress 2023, join a talk on co-producing knowledge and governance for sustainable transitions in food production systems in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.

Global sustainability challenge: Human transformation of natural ecosystems for food production purposes generates a fundamental challenge for the sustainability of socio-ecological systems across scales. On the one hand, access to a safe and nutritious diet is a pilar of human health and wellbeing, and key for societal resilience in the face of climate change. On the other hand, land use systems associated with food production are one of the main drivers of loss of natural habitats and degradation of land and water resources. In this context, sustainable transitions of food production systems at local to landscape scales is a fundamental component of research and action for sustainability in the LAC region, which harbours globally important biodiversity communities and ecosystem functions. Part of this challenge is to identify innovative and effective strategies that integrate scientific and local knowledge, innovative land governance arrangements and conservation, restoration, and sustainable production practices.

Session Goal: This session is hosted by the Cluster of Cooperation (CLOC) Conectate A+ and seeks to promote for joint learning among presenters and attendees on relevant aspects for sustainable food production that consider health, ecosystems, and climate change challenges. Participant strategies are working in the LAC with the aim of achieving lasting impacts on the sustainability attributes of food production systems.
