GC009 - Advances in the Use of Earth Observations for Mitigating Major Environmental Challenges in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean Islands
A multitude of pressing environmental challenges threaten sustainable development in the Americas. Earth Observations (EO) offer a means by which to quickly address these issues at various spatial and temporal scales. Implementation of EO by actors at all levels of the decision-making process, from government institutions to local communities and small NGOs, can contribute to mitigating these threats. This session will cover recent developments in how EO can be integrated to address GHG monitoring, natural resource management, deforestation and forest degradation, flooding, biodiversity, drought and fire response, food security, among other topics. Submissions are welcome from researchers, practitioners, networks, and decision-makers working on these issues throughout the Americas. We especially encourage papers that address indigenous communities and gender inclusivity.

Read the Call for Abstracts in English here and in Spanish here.

Abstract submission deadline 4 August 2021.
