ISCAR's ForumAlpinum 2024, titled "The Alps – a Refuge of Bio- and Geodiversity?" will center on the severe threats facing biodiversity and geodiversity worldwide, particularly in sensitive ecosystems like the Alps. This ForumAlpinum will identify bio- and geodiversity hotspots, their monitoring and management in the Alps, analyze land use conflicts and their impact on bio- and geodiversity, and evaluate the significance of protecting bio- and geodiversity within regional, national, or international contexts to discuss potential solutions.

ForumAlpinum is a scientific conference designed to facilitate international research cooperation on topics of relevance throughout the entire Alpine Arc. It also serves as a bridge between the scientific community and policy, offering opportunities for science-policy dialogue.

Call For Contributions:

ISCAR is pleased to extend an invitation for you to submit your abstract for a scientific paper presentation at ForumAlpinum. Your abstract should address one or more of the topics listed below or any other topic related to biodiversity/geodiversity. Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words and include a title, a concise description of the theme and content, up to five keywords, and the name(s) of the author(s) along with their affiliations.

  • The big wild animals – the carnivores
  • Alpine bio- and geodiversity under climatic change
  • Vulnerability of mountain peoples to food insecurity due to biodiversity loss
  • Overtourism in mountain areas and its effect on biodiversity
  • Historic changes in biodiversity in mountain areas due to human influence
  • Major biodiversity threats, e.g. overexploitation, invasive alien species
  • New habitat, e.g. glacial lakes and new glacier foreland

 

Call for Posters

This year, ForumAlpinum invites students, young and early-career researchers from various scientific disciplines to present posters with their research findings relating and relevant to the Alps. Poster topics may relate to the conference theme 2024 of bio- and geodiversity, but contributions on other alpine topics are very welcome as well. The call is open until 10 May 2024.
