About

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is the main global forum to assess and discuss progress on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The eighth session of the Global Platform (GP2025) will be organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) from 2 to 6 June 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland, hosted by the Government of Switzerland. The event will be co-chaired by the Government of Switzerland and UNDRR.

The next Global Platform will constitute an important milestone between the High-Level meeting on the midterm review of the Sendai Framework (May 2023) and the five final years before the Sendai Framework will come to an end. The event is expected to assess and discuss progress made in the implementation of the recommendations put forward through the Political Declaration adopted by the UN General Assembly in May 2023, and to give practical guidance to accelerate its further implementation. GP2025 offers a chance for all stakeholders to recommit, with urgency, to accelerate progress on disaster risk reduction towards the achievement of sustainable development.

The GP2025 agenda will be guided by the Sendai Framework, in particular its goal, four priorities for action and seven global targets, as well as the key priorities identified in the midterm review of the Sendai Framework, GP2022 Co-Chairs’ Summary and Regional Platform meetings that will take place in 2024.

Engagement in the Global Platform Preparation Process

To ensure that the GP2025 will effectively contribute to shaping and changing the current course of DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction) implementation, the conceptual structure of the next Global Platform will be built around the recommendations, priorities and calls to action identified in the Political Declaration. Furthermore, the development of the GP2025 programme will take into account emerging risks, outcomes of the previous Global and Regional Platforms, global policy context, and links to other international frameworks and processes, as well as inputs received from governments, stakeholders and the UN system. Additionally, crosscutting themes and questions throughout the conference will aid in identifying crucial gaps, assessing progress, deriving lessons learned, recognizing good practices, and proposing actionable and practical measures to rectify the course in the implementation of the Sendai Framework.

Stakeholder Coordination

The GP2025 will be organized in an inclusive, consultative, and open manner. Wide stakeholder consultation and participation in the Global Platform will be encouraged, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility by all groups. The engagement of stakeholder groups in the GP2025 will be facilitated through the UNDRR Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism.

GP2025 Format

The official programme of the GP2025 will be conducted in all six official UN languages. International Sign Interpretation and Real Time Captioning will be provided. The event will take over five days, including two preparatory days (2-3 June) and three official days (4-6 June). More information on the preparations for the GP2025 will be made available on a dedicated website as planning progresses.
