ESA is pleased to announce the upcoming ESA–EGU Earth Observation Excellence Award.

Deadline to submit nominations is 2 November 2020.

New digital technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning are leading to a major transformation in Earth observation, opening up a wealth of opportunities for science and business alike. While advancement of Earth science remains the core use of Earth observation, it is also fundamental to a myriad of everyday applications that improve daily life – we live in exciting times and the opportunities to expand its use are almost limitless.

Together with the European Geosciences Union (EGU), we are looking for researchers who are in the early phases of their career and who have made an outstanding contribution to the innovative use of Earth observation. Achievements should focus on science and applications based upon Earth observations made by European satellites.

The new ESA–EGU Earth Observation Excellence Award sets out to recognise, encourage, support, and promote scientific excellence of an individual researcher or a team in accordance with ESA’s objectives, and contribution, to addressing the challenges of our changing planet. The award will be handed out at ceremony at the EGU General Assembly in April 2021, following the nomination and selection process outlined on this website.
