Outcomes of the 6th Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership.

Delegates from 97 mountain countries around the world endorsed the Aspen Declaration on 29 September 2022 during the closing ceremony of the Sixth Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership in Aspen, United States of America.

The Mountain Partnership is the United Nations' voluntary alliance of partners dedicated to mountain peoples and environments, and its secretariat is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The outcome document of this week’s meeting, the Aspen Declaration, promotes cooperation among mountain countries on a wide range of issues including the economy, social development, environment, culture, science and education, as well as the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

With a new Mountain Partnership Steering Committee also appointed during the meeting, the MRI’s term as a member of the 2017-2022 Mountain Partnership Steering Committee has ended, gratefully acknowledging the opportunity and trust bestowed on us to represent the Global Civil Society Organisations Constituency Group in that role for that period.

The MRI welcomes the endorsement by Mountain Partnership members for our proposal to set up an Independent Advisory Body within the Mountain Partnership, as a process and platform that we believe will strengthen the engagement of and contributions from Mountain Partnership members in science-policy and multistakeholder dialogues, as stipulated in the Aspen Declaration.
