The Earth Observation for Alpine ecosystems ‘eco4alps’ project, a regional initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA) and GEO Mountains affiliate project, seeks the mountain research community's input to assess stakeholder requirements in Alpine ecosystems.
The value and uniqueness of the Alps has been recognized by the regional initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA) which fosters the utility and uptake of Earth Observation derived information to address common challenges in the alpine environment. In a new project (Eco4Alps) within this initiative we develop Earth Observation based services that provide information specifically on alpine ecosystems. We will specifically make use of satellite data from the Copernicus Programme to derive new indicators and information with a specific regional focus and that can be used by key stakeholders. We have identified several topics where we see a general need for information and aim to develop the following 6 services:
- Ecosystem Mapping Service
- Forest Disturbance Service
- Grassland Management Service
- Forest Phenology Service
- Forest Fire Recover Service
- Grassland Abandonment Service
These services should serve the needs of key stakeholders and therefore we kindly invite you to support us in defining and shaping our services. We have setup this first questionnaire which will allow us to understand your general interest in our services and your availability in providing us further feedback. In a second step we would like to contact you again to better understand your current working practices, your needs and how our services fit to your specific requirements. In the next two years we will then provide you the access to our services and would like to evaluate their impact on your work.
