The negotiations to develop the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, prior to the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, will be undertaken by a dedicated open-ended intersessional working group under the leadership of its two co-chairs, Mr. Francis Ogwal (Uganda) and Mr. Basile van Havre (Canada), and overseen by the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties.

The process adopted by Parties to develop the post-2020 global biodiversity framework contains a set of principles to guide its implementation, an organization of work, and sets out a comprehensive consultation process, including provisions for global, regional, and thematic consultation meetings. Updates on the implementation of this process will be made available on the Convention on Biological Diversity website over the next two years and this page will be regularly updated.

As a first step in developing the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, a discussion document summarizing and analyzing the initial views of Parties and observers has been made available. An information document synthesizing all of the submissions has also been made available. Parties and observers are encouraged to provide their views on this discussion document as well as any other views on the scope and content of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework by 15 April 2019 to This email address is being protected from spambots. The discussion document will also be considered during the series of consultation meetings for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. The first of these meetings is taking place in Nagoya, Japan from 28 to 31 January 2019 for the Asia and Pacific Region.
