The deadline to submit your abstract for the International Mountain Conference 2019 is fast approaching! All abstracts must be received by 14 February 2019. 

The International Mountain Conference 2019 (IMC 2019) will take place 8-12 September 2019 at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. Building upon the legacy of the Perth mountain conference series, IMC 2019 aims to encourage in-depth, cross-disciplinary exchange and collaboration, and will provide an excellent opportunity for experts from different disciplines to come together and discuss mountains, their responses to climate and other changes, and their resilience as social-ecological systems.

The MRI is looking forward to number of contributions to IMC 2019 from the MRI community of researchers, and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage more mountain researchers to participate. 

Among the exciting list of keynote speakers is MRI Science Leadership Council member Prof. Irasema Alcántara Ayala, an expert in landslides, vulnerability, and integrated disaster risk. She'll be giving a talk entitled 'Integrated Research on Disaster Risk: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future of Mountains.' Other confirmed speakers include Mark Aldenderfer, Hilde Björkhaug, Olivier Henry-Biabaud, Markku Kulmala, Christian Körner, Ben Marzeion, and Christoph Schär.

In addition to these keynote speeches, the conference will be structured around a series of interactive workshops focusing on:

• The investigation of processes and the detection of changes in climate and other factors more or less influenced by climate (e.g., social, environmental, or infrastructural changes)
• The consequences of changes with respect to the vulnerabilities of socio-ecological systems
• Strategies for adaptation and transformation

1. Workshop & Poster
   Your abstract (max 300 words) should explain how your expertise can contribute to the questions/issues raised in the workshop description. During the workshop, you will be asked to give your perspective on the points outlined in the workshop description through a 3 minute flash talk at the beginning of the workshop, and to then subsequently contribute to the discussion and output of the workshop.

   Workshop participants are also invited to provide a poster that:
   - Summarizes their response to the questions raised in the workshop description
   - Presents a specific piece of research they are currently working on and would like to discuss with other conference participants
   - Summarizes their recent research activities
   
   
2. Specific Research Poster
   This allows participants to present a research poster without being actively involved in a workshop. The research presented in the poster will be discussed during poster sessions. Participants submitting specific research posters are also welcome to attend any workshop as a listener (space permitting).

MRI FUNDING SUPPORT FOR SYNTHESIS WORKSHOPS: IMC 2019
The MRI is offering funding to support synthesis workshops that are part of the IMC 2019 programme, and that expect to produce publishable outputs that are suitable for IPCC AR6, and more specifically for the report by Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability) - which also includes the Cross-Chapter Paper on Mountains. This call invites IMC 2019 Workshop Moderators to submit proposals that specifically address the knowledge needs of the IPCC AR6 Working Group II assessment process by 31 March 2019.
