The Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory has begun the second phase of the development of the Pyrenean Climate Change Strategy. The mountain research community are invited to participate in the process by contributing their experience and knowledge through an online survey.

The Pyrenees is a mountain bioregion particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Seven regional climate change policies from three countries converge in this territory, comprised of two EU Member States and one third country.

Most of these policies do not take into account two differential facts:

  • The mountainous nature of the territory
  • The cross-border approach

Therefore, a need has been identified to define a cross-border climate change strategy for the whole of this mountain territory. The Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory has therefore begun the second phase of the development of the Pyrenean Climate Change Strategy (EPCC), an initiative that is part of the Poctefa ADAPYR and LIFE AT CC Pyrenees projects and led by the Working Community of the Pyrenees (CTP).

This second phase has a two main objectives:

1) To complete and validate the strategy, and to improve the draft with inputs from new stakeholders.
2) To define the implementation plan in order to promote the appropriation of the strategy by the different stakeholders of the territory.

The Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory aims to carry out the validation of the draft EPCC through a participatory process that will consist of different territorial and sectoral workshops. Interested parties are also invited to participate in the process by contributing their experience and knowledge via an online survey.

More information about this process, including a draft of the Pyrenean Climate Change Strategy, can be found on the CTP website.
