In this issue, four studies from Italy, France, and Cyprus examine how the production of Mediterranean mountain food specialties—cheese, beef, and wine—can support sustainable development in the producing regions.

Two look at how consumer preferences could be better harnessed, one analyzes the crucial role of community-based institutions, and one shows how mountain wineries are revitalizing terraced farming. Two articles offer insights for better visitor management in mountain-protected areas: research from Nepal shows how geolocated social media images can provide useful data, and a study from the French Alps examines hikers’ and skiers’ attitudes as a basis for targeted visitor information. Finally, a study from South Africa’s Drakensberg Mountains analyzes urbanization based on land cover change and calls for integrative land use coplanning.
