A special issue of the Journal of Mountain ScienceDisaster Risk Reduction in Mountain Areas’ Volume 19 Issue 6, June 2022, co-guest edited by MRI SLC member Irasema Alcantara-Ayala.

The purpose of this special issue was to explore the experiences on the diverse dimensions of disaster risk reduction research in mountain regions and help advance the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR 2015). The issue features 21 contributions that highlight the diverse dimensions of research on disaster risk reduction in mountain regions, including topics of landslide dynamics and mechanisms, landslide inventories and landslide susceptibility models, insights to landslide hazards and disasters and mitigation measures, disaster response and disaster risk reduction.

In addition to the editorial, Irasema Alcantara-Ayala also co-authored one of the contributions titled ‘Disaster risk reduction in mountain areas: an initial overview on seeking pathways to global sustainability’ whose co-authors include Alessandro Pasuto and Peng Cui. This paper argues that, building on existing international frameworks, and integrated knowledge and praxis, the development of a global policy agenda should be established to build sustainable peace, sustainable security, and development.
