As part of its Agenda for Europe, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is undertaking a research project. that focuses on the impact of climate change and the future of snow and mountain tourism destinations. Snow tourism is a vital economic driver for many mountain communities, but the increasing unreliability of snowfall at lower and medium altitudes due to climate change poses a significant threat to their long-term viability.
To kick-start this important research, UNWTO is conducting a survey to:
- Map the current and anticipated impacts of climate change on snow and mountain tourism destinations.
- Identify key challenges, priorities, and strategies for adaptation and diversification.
- Highlight successful transformations and good practices that could serve as models for others.
The survey will remain open until 15 January 2025, and can be completed at this link.
For any question related to the survey, please contact Michel Julian at mjulian@unwto.org or Nina Kušar at nkusar@unwto.org.
