The 3rd International Conference ‘Mountains: Biodiversity, Landscapes, and Cultures’ is an international scientific event jointly organized by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) and Western Caspian University.

The conference is dedicated to the comprehensive scientific study of mountainous regions as globally significant natural, ecological, social, cultural, and landscape systems, and to the advancement of multidisciplinary dialogue in this field.

Although mountain ecosystems play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, climate regulation, and the preservation of cultural heritage, they are increasingly exposed to risks arising from climate change, environmental degradation, and unsustainable development. Addressing these challenges requires integrative scientific approaches and strong international cooperation.

The main objective of the conference is to strengthen scientific collaboration, promote innovative and scientifically grounded approaches aimed at the sustainable development of mountainous regions, and contribute to the formation of new strategic perspectives on ecological and cultural sustainability.

The event is envisioned as a high-level scientific platform bringing together researchers, field experts, and representatives of relevant institutions.

Participants are warmly welcomed to this conference, which aims to promote a sustainable future while celebrating the rich diversity of mountain cultures, landscapes, and biodiversity.

The main conference will be preceded by a day of informative workshops and an excursion to explore the natural beauty of Baku and its nearby areas, which may include surrounding landscapes. The conference will feature a diverse range of sessions, with a particular focus on mountains.

This critical discussion will be led by experts from the United Nations Environment Programme, the Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment, and the Mountain Research Initiative.

Western Caspian University will be responsible for covering delegates’ expenses associated with the conference, including official receptions and meals, accommodation, local transportation, and cultural programs.
