To mark the 40th anniversary of a series of large avalanches in Ormonts, the museum invites you to discover the exhibition ‘AVALanche at the Musée des Ormonts.’
The Musée des Ormonts invites its visitors to venture onto the snowy slopes which, throughout time, have threatened lives and built heritage.
In the various exhibition rooms, warm and sheltered from the devastating avalanches, within a setting crafted by local artisans, snow scientists explain how and when avalanches are triggered and the forms they can take. You will also discover how our Alpine region has gradually equipped itself to protect mountain areas from these dangers, to rescue victims and to assist those affected by disasters.
This exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in these events, through the poignant testimonies of local residents. These stories are real gems, testifying to the resilience of the people of Ormont. They also paint a valuable picture of the spirit of solidarity that natural disasters have fostered in the region. Above all, these accounts show how this ever-present threat has led them, over the centuries, to adapt their environment to guard against and protect themselves from it.
