Leading Transformation Together
The fourth edition of the World Biodiversity Forum WBF will take place from Sunday, 14 June to Friday, 19 June 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.
Bending the curve of biodiversity loss, and addressing the interconnected planetary crises that negatively impact planetary health and social justice requires the development of actionable solutions based on the best available knowledge, jointly across sectors and generations. It also requires addressing the root causes of these crises, current social and cultural pattern and practices, by co-developing biodiversity-positive futures, and creating structures and practices that are just and equitable.
Also, the operationalization of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework urgently needs strong support beyond the governmental structures. The World Biodiversity Forum 2026 contributes to these developments by convening the community to build broad and strong leadership and networks for transformation, bringing science, arts, society, and businesses together, across generations. WBF2026 builds on the valuable experience from previous World Biodiversity Forums. Read more about the World Biodiversity Forum here.
MRI at the World Biodiversity Forum 2026
We are excited to receive abstracts from our fellow mountain researchers for our following session:
CON14: Social Innovation and Collective Action in Socio-Ecological Systems for Transformative Change in Biodiversity Futures in Mountain Regions
Conveners: Mariana Melnykovych (MRI Science Leadership Council Member)
Co-conveners: Carolina Adler (MRI Executive Director); Ignacio Palomo (MRI Science Leadership Council Member); Adrienne Grêt-Regamey (MRI Principal Investigator).
This session explores how social innovation, participatory governance, and collective action can drive transformative change to halt and reverse biodiversity loss in mountain regions, particularly in agriculture and forestry. It will showcase collaborative approaches, such as Living Labs and long-term socio-ecological research, that integrate local, Indigenous, and scientific knowledge to build resilience, equity, and trust while informing policy and practice.
