As part of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025, a joint celebration of the first World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day will take place from 20 to 21 March 2025 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. This event will serve as a platform for dialogue and action regarding the state of the world’s glaciers and their impacts on global water security, communities and ecosystems.
Highlights of the two-day programme include:
- High-level sessions featuring global leaders and experts
- Launch of the UN World Water Development Report 2025 under the theme “Mountains and glaciers: Water towers”
- Brainstorming session for theDecade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences 2025-2034
- Exhibitions on glaciers and mountains
- Parallel side-events for further in-depth discussions and engagement
Members of the mountain research community are kindly invited to contribute to these celebrations by organizing a side event. If interested, please submit a side event proposal here. The deadline to submit a proposal is 15 January 2025.
