The Glacier Model Intercomparison Project (GlacierMIP) is now seeking participants for the next phase of its international effort to improve and compare global-scale glacier models.

This new phase focuses on two key objectives:

  1. Producing Updated Global Glacier Projections
Developing new community global-scale projections with a timeline that permits potential inclusion into the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). Standardized experiments will be established, and all participants are requested to adhere to these guidelines and deadlines. Among other, we also plan to investigate the differences among glacier models regarding their simulated mass-balance components to better understand the underlying causes of these differences in model results.
  2. Establishing Output Standardization Protocols
Developing protocols for standardization of model output (e.g. variables, names, format etc) to facilitate the activity above. This approximately 3-4-month activity is scheduled to begin in September 2025, and it may culminate in the publication of a short data/method paper.

Researchers and modeling teams with glacier models capable of simulating changes at regional to global scales are strongly encouraged to participate in one or both of these initiatives.

Those interested should complete this short survey by 5 September 2025, to express their interest.
