The latest issue of the Journal of Alpine Research takes a radical approach to analysing the mountains from the angle of relations of domination and exploitation, which are still little explored in the social sciences.
Drawing on intersectional and critical perspectives, the contributions examine the dynamics of minoritisation, forms of resistance and the spatial dimensions of inequalities in the mountains, particularly in terms of class, gender, and race. Using a range of engaged methodologies, this issue illustrates how these relationships are experienced and structured, while calling for more in-depth reflection on postcolonial and decolonial issues in the mountain context.
This issue of the Journal of Alpine Research on ‘Negotiating One’s Place in the Mountains: Radical Perspectives’ was edited by Mari Oiry-Varacca and Lea Sallenave.
