The latest issue of the Journal of Alpine Research / Revue de géographie alpine explores how mountain regions are becoming pivotal arenas in the socio-ecological transition.

Mountain regions have long been central to industrial production at both regional and global scales. Today, they stand at the forefront of the socio-ecological transition, serving as key laboratories for redefining sustainable development under pressing environmental constraints.

This Special Issue of the Journal of Alpine Research / Revue de géographie alpine examines the spatial, social, economic, and environmental transformations reshaping mountain productive landscapes. Through interdisciplinary perspectives, the contributions explore industrial sectors, urban forms such as company towns and high-altitude settlements, and evolving trajectories of decline, abandonment, and redevelopment – along with their legacies and conflicts.
