The 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will take place 19–30 October 2026.
The meeting will be held in conjunction with the twelfth meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP-12) and the sixth meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (NP-MOP-6). COP 17 will mark the first global review of collective progress towards the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
Mountains at COP 17
Mountain ecosystems and biodiversity will feature in a number of events throughout COP 17, exploring connections between biodiversity, climate, water and sustainable development in mountain regions.
22 October | Nature Without Borders: The Caucasus Call for Biodiversity, Climate and People
This side event will focus on the Caucasus and the connections between biodiversity conservation, climate action and people across borders.

26 October | Mountain Ecosystems Day
Mountain Ecosystems Day will take place from 09:00โ18:00 in the GBF Pavilion, bringing attention to mountain biodiversity and the importance of mountain ecosystems within implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Mountain Cryosphere and Headwater Systems: Sustaining Ecosystem Integrity for Water, Food and Energy Security in a Changing Climate
This side event will explore the importance of mountain cryosphere and headwater systems and their connections with ecosystem integrity and water, food and energy security.

27 October | High-Level Launch of the Yerevan Platform on Mountains and Freshwater Biodiversity
The Water Towers of the World: A Global Dialogue on Mountain and Freshwater Biodiversity will launch the Yerevan Platform and bring together discussion around the critical links between mountain and freshwater biodiversity.
