About

The Sustainability Science Summit 2025 will take place as an interactive event from 19–21 February 2025 in Kassel, Germany, with the Kassel Institute for Sustainability as the local host. The summit continues the series of the German Future Earth Summits organized by the German Committee Future Earth (Deutsches Komitee für Nachhaltigkeitsforschung in Future Earth, DKN). It offers a forum for national and international sustainability science, including but not limited to, activities within Future Earth and the World Climate Research Programme.

The summit will provide a forum for exchange on the latest scientific findings and trends in sustainability research. The contribution of science for sustainable development is the thematic umbrella for issues like justice and equity, biodiversity, extreme events, food systems, land use, social cohesion, health and wellbeing, energy and resources, and climate resilience. Furthermore, the academic landscape and research approaches and methodologies for sustainability science as well as for sustainable research shall be discussed. The aim of the summit is to foster a systemic perspective on sustainability science. The summit topics will be covered within and across disciplines, in scientific sessions, panel discussions, interactive roundtables, and other innovative formats.

The summit invites session proposals on the summit topics as described above. Proposals on fundamental approaches in sustainability science, on the structure of the science and research landscape, on the interface of science and policy making and practice, as well as on the role of international networks and cooperation are of interest.

The deadline for submission of contributions is 30 September 2024.
