The 10 New Insights in Climate Science series is an annual effort of science synthesis and science communication aimed at highlighting key recent advances in climate change research with policy relevance, in time for the UNFCCC COP. Its ultimate purpose is to equip policymakers and other decision-makers with an updated understanding to make sense of and confront the climate emergency. This is a joint initiative of Future Earth and The Earth League. 

Produced since 2017, this annual report is distributed to all Party delegations and launched at or ahead of the COP. An academic manuscript underpinning the report is submitted for publication as part of the process, providing independent peer-review of the scientific content. The 2024 manuscript has been pre-accepted for publication in One Earth, and previous installments have been published in Global Sustainability.

We welcome your contribution!

This annual process begins with a request for expert input from the global community of climate change researchers: We invite climate change researchers from around the world, and with expertise across the natural and social sciences, to contribute by telling us what are key recent developments in climate change research that should be raised to the attention of policymakers. Relevant topics span a broad scholarship on the underlying bio/geophysical patterns and processes of the climate system, the impacts of climate change, and the means and barriers to addressing the climate emergency.

Through this questionnaire, we also seek to identify potential co-authors for the policy report and the academic manuscript. 

Completing this questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes. Deadline for submitting your input is 31 January 2025.
