The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is inviting experts to contribute to the review of the First Order Draft of the Working Group II contribution to the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), together with the Technical Guidelines for Assessing Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation (TGIA).

The review is particularly relevant to the mountain research community: the Working Group II contribution, which focuses on climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability, will once again include a dedicated Cross-Chapter Paper on Mountains. Mountain experts are therefore encouraged to take part in the review and help ensure that the latest evidence, knowledge, and perspectives from mountain regions are appropriately reflected in this major global climate assessment.

Contributing to AR7

Expert Review is a central part of the IPCC assessment process, helping to ensure that its reports provide a balanced and comprehensive assessment of the latest scientific findings. The IPCC seeks participation from experts representing a broad range of disciplines, perspectives and geographical regions.

The First Order Draft of the WGII contribution and the TGIA will be available for Expert Review from 9 October to 4 December 2026. Reviewers will have access to all components of both drafts and are asked to focus their comments on substantive scientific and technical issues rather than editorial matters.

The TGIA will update the IPCC’s 1994 Technical Guidelines on climate change impacts and adaptation and will address adaptation indicators, metrics and guidelines. It is being developed alongside the Working Group II report but will be published as a separate product.

Registration Now Open

Experts wishing to participate must first register for the review. Registration is open until 20 November 2026, two weeks before the review closes.

The MRI particularly encourages researchers with expertise relevant to mountain systems, communities and regions to consider participating. This is an important opportunity to help strengthen the representation of mountain-specific evidence and perspectives within AR7 and contribute to the scientific robustness of the assessment.
