MRI and GEO Mountains to be Represented at the AGU Fall Meeting 2024

MRI Scientific Officer Dr. James Thornton will represent GEO Mountains and the MRI at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting 2024, which will take place in Washington D.C., USA, from 9–13 December 2024.

James will present a poster on The Unified High Elevation Observation Platform (UHOP), a joint initiative of the Elevation-Dependent Climate Change Working Group and GEO Mountains. The abstract, co-authored by EDCC Working Group members Nicholas Pepin, Joshua Benes, Jakob Steiner, Scott Williamson, Elisa Palazzi, Mariano Masiokas, and John Knowles, is available here

Meanwhile, the MRI’s new Mountain Social-Ecological Futures Working Group will be represented by Anaïs Zimmer (IRD Institute for Research and Development, France), who will give a presentation entitled “A New Research Agenda for Mountain Futures” co-authored by the working group members Adrienne Grêt-Regamey, Rob Marchant, and Ignacio Palomo, as well as MRI Executive Director Carolina Adler, on Friday 13 December from 08:30 to 12:20 in Hall B-C (Poster Hall) (Convention Center).

Immediately prior to the AGU, James will also represent the MRI at the first annual meeting of the Andean Climate Change: Observations, Research & Discovery (ACCORD) project, which is funded by the US National Science Foundation AccelNet scheme, and in which the MRI is a partner.
