To mark the start of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP) in 2025, a high-level launch event will be held on 21 January 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland, and online. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness, encourage action, and secure funding for ongoing initiatives. The event will begin with a prominent “curtain-raiser” session, co-organized by the WMO and UNESCO, with support from Tajikistan and France. This will be followed by a series of online events as part of the main program. The event will be open to both in-person participation at the WMO headquarters in Geneva and online, with free registration available to all.

Open Call for Events

Apart from a hybrid high-level curtain raiser event that takes place from 14:00 – 16:00 (CET), there will be a series of fully online 1-1.5 hour side events hosted by country representatives, international organizations, research organizations, and NGOs, among other partners, across regions and time zones.

Those interested in hosting an event during the launch day are invited to fill out this form by 8 December 2024.
